Donald Trump opponents are taking a stand against a controversial TIME Magazine cover that was released on Monday. African Americans against Donald Trump are in shock after seeing the Republican nominee on the front of a popular magazine claiming to be “The African American’s Greatest Hope.”
“Oh hell to the mother f*ckin’ no,” said Tyrone Mitchell, Hillary Clinton supporter. “That racist mother f*cker has the nerve to put on a Dashiki and claim to be our greatest hope. What the f*ck? He thinks we’re broke and miserable? I wish he would come tell us that to our damn face. But you won’t see a rally in Compton. I guarantee you that.”
Voters like Tyrone are outraged after Donald Trump made a statement saying, “American’s lives are so miserable, I can’t possibly make it any worse. I mean, no health care, no education, no anything. Vote for me, what do you have to lose?” Now, Trump has taken it a step further by dressing himself in a garment widely worn by men in Africa.
The Dashiki found a market in America during the black cultural and political struggles in the 1960s. It was worn as a way to show protest against society’s disrespect for African-Americans. It was a symbol of affirmation, it stood for “Black is Beautiful,” and signaled a return to African roots, and insistence on full rights in American society. Donald Trump says he will continue to wear this garment until black people in America “get the respect they deserve.” However, African-Americans are saying he’s taking it way too far. “He doesn’t care about us,” said Tyrone. “He just wants our vote. I guess he thinks we’re poor, miserable, AND stupid.”
